Amazon Ditches Square Footage

The figure could be as high as 30 million square feet. This is in contrast to the the company’s acquisition of 200 million square feet during the pandemic. In the Detroit area, it’s a different story. The company currently occupies or is building at least 13 million square feet. According to sources, Amazon was more deliberate in the Detroit area, as opposed to other areas where it acquired square footage where it could find it. The company also seems to be dropping smaller spaces and not mega-centers like those in the Detroit area.
Ilitch And Ross Release Detroit Center Renderings
/in Detroit, SE Michigan, Uncategorized /by Tracy WillisStephen Ross and the Ilitch organization have released conceptual renderings showing new retail, housing and office developments in Detroit’s sports venue district. The projects include new construction, as well as reuse of existing buildings. The renderings show a future hotel on Henry Street, an office tower with ground-floor retail space along Woodward Avenue next to Comerica Park, a residential, retail and office development on Park Street, and office, retail and residential development along Columbia Street. Ross and Ilitch are collaborating on the University of Michigan’s planned Detroit Center for Innovation. They expect to break ground on the project in 2023.
David Whitney Building Hotel Builds On And Rebrands

According The Roxbury Group, the building will lose 24 of the apartments but leave 80 residences on the top seven floors. The hotel rooms will be renovated, along with the lobby bar, atrium lounge and outdoor seating. The building’s event space will become restaurant space. Renovations will being this summer. The project’s budget is undisclosed.

Madewell Retailer To Close in Downtown Detroit
/in Detroit /by Tracy WillisWomen’s apparel retailer Madewell is permanently closing its story in downtown Detroit. The 1426 Woodward Avenue location will close on March 27. Madewell is a brand owned by J. Crew Group, which underwent a Chapter 11 reorganization bankruptcy in May 2020. After the Detroit store closes, Madeell will still have three locations in Michigan, including one at the Somerset Collection in Troy.
The Detroit Land Bank Authority Expects to Sell Remaining Properties by 2023
/in Detroit /by Tracy WillisThe Detroit Land Bank Authority expects to sell most of its structures by the end of 2023. The DLBA is responsible for selling vacant homes and lots in the city. Their focus moving forward will adapt to vacant land sales with the mission to return blighted and vacant properties to productive use. The Land Bank officials asked the city for $11 million from the general fund for the 2023 fiscal year in order to maintain operations and properties that could be put up for sale. The DLBA expects to list 5,400 salvageable properties by the end of next year, but needs the money to maintain the properties.
Metro Detroit Celebrates It First New Department Store In a Decade

Von Maur’s new store at The Village of Rochester Hills officially opened this weekend. It is the retailer’s first new store since 2008. The new Von Maur store is located at 400 N. Adams Road.
