Emagine Is Moving To Walsh College Troy Site

.Emagine Entertainment Inc. is moving its headquarters to the Walsh College campus in Troy. The company has leased the second floor of the college’s facility for three years. The building includes an on-site gym, showers, and conference space. Emagine’s Chariman Paul Glantz hopes the amenities will entice workers to come back tot he office. Emagine has hired several Walsh interns and graduates and hopes the new environment will lead to finding and hiring more talent. The company will make the move in January.

 

Grand Rapids Planning Commission Approves Plans For Multi-Use Development

The Grand Rapids City Planning Commission approved plans for The McConnell, a 432-unit apartment, restaurant and retail building south of downtown Grand Rapids. The project plans will reuse an existing industrial building in addition to new construction. The commission unanimously approved special land use and optional  plan review requests for the project. The special land use request was for a reduction in required parking, alcohol sales and consumption, live entertainment, banquet functions and outdoor seating. The developers of the project include Chicago-based Krika Development, Boston-based Spire Investment Properties and Suitepeople, based in McLean, Virginia.

 

 

Saugatuck’s Clearbrook Golf Course Has New Owners

The new owners of Saugatuck’s Clearbrook Golf Course have no concrete plans for changes to the course other than small aesthetic amendments like burying overhead power lines. Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins and his wife, Julie, view their purchase as a way to invest in the community and plan to maintain the golf course which has been in place since 1926. The purchase did not include the Grill Room Restaurant. Jim and Candy Jeltema will continue as owners of the restaurant. Although they no longer own the golf course, the Jeltemas will continue to operate it.

 

Ilitch and Ross Propose Hotel Development Near Little Caesars Arena

The Downtown Development Authority board signed off on a proposal for a new $190.5 million hotel south of Little Caesars Arena. Plans for the hotel have been in the works for a while. The hotel would be 14 stories tall with 290 rooms. The Ilitch family and developer Stephen Ross submitted the development plan. Together, they would ground-lease the land from an Olympia-owned entity. The hotel, food, beverage and other amenities will create a variety of jobs and attract people to the region. The project would cost $137.3 million. Ilitch and Ross have partnered on projects in the Ilitch family’s District Detroit area in the last year.

 

 

The Gillespie Group to Transform Lansing’s Former Sears Location

The Gillespie Group is looking to transform a major business corridor in Lansing, Michigan by developing a former Sears location. Located at 3131 E. Michigan Ave., the property is being marketed as ROECO as a tribute to Sears Roebuck.  Gillespie Group’s project aims to transform the property into a mixed-use entertainment destination. It has already hooked the attention of local and national investors. The new development would come to be as thousands of new housing units are being built across the Lansing area. ROECO is situated in the heart of the region and across the street from new dining, housing and hotel rooms. The timeline and and final product of the project will be in flux as the Gillespie Group continues to find new partners.

 

Plymouth’s Fox Hills Golf Club Sold After 50 Years of Family Ownership

Sisters Kathy Aznavorian and Sandy Mily recently sold the Fox Hills Golf Club to Virginia-based Heritage Gold Group. The sale took place in July, and its terms are undisclosed. Their parents bought the property 59 years ago when it was known as the Plymouth Country Club. After inheriting it from their parents, the sisters expanded, adding several new courses to bring the number of holes to 63, including an 18-hole course made up of par 3 holes. They added a clubhouse in order to host big events throughout the year. According to the vice president of operations at Heritage Gold Group, the name, the course and the food will remain intact. The company also kept the entire staff on, including several family members of the original owners.

 

 

Ann Arbor’s Former Lucky’s Market Is Repurposed

The company, Venue, is bringing a 15-minute neighborhood concept to the former Lucky’s Market space in Ann Arbor. Located at 1919 S. Industrial Highway, Venue is the sister location to Prentice4M, a coworking and co-living space. Venue is slated to open on Friday, August 26, but its coworking space will open on September 1. The 30,000-square-foot location will feature five menus, shared coworking space, a bar, a coffee shop, a market and private office rental space. Venue also hosts a podcast studio, telephone booths and conference rooms. It has partnered with an autonomous vehicle ride-sharing system, as a drop-off and pick-up location for May Mobility’s  A2GO service.

$116 Million Amphitheater Approved by Grand Rapids Leaders

In April, the Grand Rapids City Commission approved a proposal by the Grand Rapids-Ken County Convention/Arena Authority (CAA) to buy over 11 acres of land to build an amphitheater. At its board meeting on Friday, the commission approved a memorandum of understanding with Grand Action 2.0 (GA2.0) that outlines the terms of partnership between CAA and Grand Action 2.0 in developing the amphitheater. The proposed $116 million amphitheater will seat 12,000. It will sit at the southwest edge of downtown Grand Rapids and be slightly smaller than Pine Knob Music Theater in metro Detroit. The CAA is a seven-member board that administers DeVos Place, DeVos Performance Hall and Van Andel Arena. Grand Action 2.0 is an economic development group chaired by Carol Van Andel, Dick DeVos and Tom Welch, Michigan’s regional president of Fifth Third Bank.

 

Sugar Loaf Demolition Completed But Cloaked in Mystery

Speculation among community residents runs rampant as the new owners of the blighted Sugar Loaf ski lodge complex make good on their promise.  A fence rims the demolition site that is now the staging area for work crews who are crushing the remaining asphalt and making topsoil runs up to the top of what was once the ski hill. Residents are curious about what’s next, but anyone who is in the know isn’t talking. The property was purchased in late 2021 by SPV 45 LLC who said it would remove the blighted buildings and clean up the property.  A real estate advisor for the owners recently attended the annual meeting for townhouse owners who asked many questions. Unfortunately, they didn’t get any answers about the future.

Blake’s Orchard & Cider Mill Takes Over Erwin Orchards

Blake’s Orchard & Cider Mill owners will take over operations at Erwin Orchards. They hope to maintain the integrity of Erwin’s but with a Blake spin on it. Orchard Crossing, a 181-acre development at Silver Lake and Kent Lake roads will be positively impacted by the deal.  The Orchard Crossing development will leave 104 acres for preservation of orchards, the cider mill and other new enterprises. Blake’s is planning a 20,000-square-foot tasting room with a full-service restaurant, bar service and cidery/beer brewing. The year-round facility will be located on the northeast corner of Silver Lake and Ken Lake roads.  The north side orchard operations area will also include a 20,000-square-foot venue with a 400-person capacity and an outdoor patio. On the south side of Silver Lake, the existing cider mill will be expanded with a cider press, cafe, retail sales and office.
